Many times early success is not necessarily good because it makes us complacent. Just because you won a marathon does not mean that you can stop running, it takes daily exercise to keep in shape. So too, with SEO; once you have met a goal you need to keep trying to improve on it or a similar goal. Failing to do so will cause you to lose your competitive advantage.

Five things to do on a weekly basis

Read the copy on your site. Does it make sense? Is it current? Just as moving products around in a brick and mortar store keeps your inventory fresh, continuing to evolve the content on your website keeps the information from getting stale and keeps returning visitors happy.

Look at your competition’s websites. Are they making improvements? Have they added new product lines? Are they upping the ante?

Review your bounce rates. Have you optimized the site for something that is not integral to your success? Has the focus of your site changed? Do you need to tweak your optimization? This happens! You need to constantly review the keywords that drive customers to your site and if you have high bounce rates for them, either re-think you keywords or update your site to meet their needs.

Are you asking for the sale? Are you getting results that meet your goals for the site? Are you getting contacts? How can you do a better job of selling your product or service?

Where are your customers coming from? Who refers new customers to you? What is your relationship with them, how can you keep it a good relationship?

Treating your website as an integral part of your business is imperative to keeping your online customers happy. Whether the purpose of your site is to sell, inform or motivate; keep it fresh and continually edit with an eye toward improving your customer’s experience.

The internet world is evolving at a lightning pace. Social Media marketing is the magnet pushing the expansion and pulling the pieces into place; new standards of microdata are being released which will allow SEO professionals to better spell out what their clients want the search engines to find.

Facebook, LinkedIn, Blogs and Twitter are now impacting rankings. How the average company can stay on top without resources dedicated to social media marketing remains to be seen. It seems that the casual approach to SEO may soon be a relic of simpler times.

We, at Baker Dynamics, are embracing the new guidelines put in place by the big three search engines, and see them as a beacon lighting the way to honest SEO rankings. Our clients want to be on the cutting edge we are working to help guide them through these strange new waters.
